Phoebe has been an Addictions Counselor at the Joseph S. Massie Unit since 2001. Since starting at Massie she obtained the necessary coursework, clinical hours, and completed the examinations required to become a Certified Associate Counselor. She also obtained her Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Frostburg State University and is now working toward obtaining her clinical hours to pursue licensure.
Phoebe started at Massie on the evening shift as a case manager, where she was responsible for carrying cases as well as completing psychosocial assessments on new admissions. Phoebe is able to quickly build rapport with the clients by showing compassion and empathy which helped her to be an effective counselor.
Phoebe transitioned to day shift a few years later, where she continued to work as a case manager. Since that time, Phoebe has learned to multitask effectively so that she could take on a new job responsibility obtaining authorizations for treatment through various managed care organizations. Phoebe has truly excelled in this role as she conceptualizes each client’s situation, working collaboratively with other case managers to gain insight into the client’s needs, in order to effectively obtain the most coverage for their length of stay. She remains an advocate for the clients despite continued challenges with managed care.
Phoebe maintains a willingness to expand her knowledge of the addictions field and managed care changes by attending trainings regularly. She works hard to maintain a positive attitude, even when presented with difficult situations that are often encountered in a residential treatment setting.
For all of her hard work and dedication we are happy to have Phoebe as a member of the Massie Unit team and proud to have her named as the Allegany County Health Department Employee of the Month for July 2017.
