The goal of Injury Prevention Services is to prevent deaths and disabilities from injuries that are intentional and unintentional. The program is funded by the Office of Injury Prevention and Health Assessment at the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
On an average day in the United States:
- 405 people will die from injuries
- 7,500 will be hospitalized because of non-fatal injuries
- 162,000 people will suffer injuries severe enough to restrict their activities, 92% requiring medical attention.
